Frequently my daydreams take me to places I have seen on Pinterest or in a blog post. But sometimes I also got lost in my thoughts about places we have visited before. It is funny how sometimes it is the most unexpected places that capture our hearts, usually for unpredictable reasons. Last year at Thanksgiving, my sister decided to skip the family celebration and head off to Tulum, Mexico with friends. I couldn't blame her, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times to travel internationally too (while most Americans are traveling domestically, there are great prices to be had on international travel). She came home raving about Tulum and we promptly added it to our bucket list.
When we decided to stop off in Mexico for a few days en route to Cuba earlier this year, Tulum was a natural choice. Unlike Cuba where we had a long list of activities planned and sights to take in, our plan in Tulum was to simply relax and enjoy the beach.
It seems that Tulum is not quite as undiscovered as I had imagined - I have seen many blog posts about Tulum in recent months including these from Design Love Fest, Yes and Yes and 100 Layer Cake. And, it is growing in popularity for good reason! Tulum is one of those magical places that is relatively easy to get to (it is a two hour drive from the Cancun airport) yet feels more exotic than Florida or Hawaii.
What are your favorite beach destinations? Do you prefer to stay within the United States or to travel internationally? What do you look for in a travel destination?

After spending the last few days in New Orleans I came home with plenty of inspiration. Yesterday as we were walking home from brunch I realized that it would be great fun to plan future Ella Lou collections after cities I have visited and found particularly inspiring. New Orleans home are some of the most beautiful and vibrant homes I have ever come across in the United States. I'm mulling over how to translate the inspiration they provided me into an Ella Lou collection.
Bonjour! I was recently asked by a journalist to provide a few shots of my daughter and I playing with Ella Lou products for an upcoming article (more about that later) and realized I didn't have any. I have hundreds of her playing with my Wanderlust Playmats, wrapped in a pestemal, or hugging pillows. However, because I am typically behind the camera, we didn't have any of us together. We decided to make an afternoon of it and made an appointment at Blink for a quick photo shoot.
On my most recent trip to Paris, I asked my close friend Vanessa, a particularly savvy Parisian, for a list of her favorite Parisian kids stores. Having recently developed our line of Wanderlust Playmats, I am increasingly interested in well-designed children's products and spaces. The Parisian children's stores did not disappoint. Here I share a few of my favorites.
